Got Ethics

Got Ethics

  • Did you know that NAR requires all members to take a Code of Ethics course every four years?

  • Did you know that the new NMREC rule change proposal will require a Code of Ethics course for license renewal?

  • Did you know that BOTH of these requirements have different deadlines?

  • Are you confused yet?

  • We are! However, we are going to try to help you figure it all out.

National Association of REALTORS

REALTORS® are required to complete ethics training of not less than 2 hours, 30 minutes of instructional time within four-year cycles. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®.

»»» The current four-year cycle will end Dec. 31, 2016. «««

New Mexico Real Estate Commission

Proposed – The NMREC will require a Commission approved four (4) hour ethics course for license renewal – every three years. If passed this requirement will likely go into effect this summer.

You may be asking how do you fulfil each requirement?

NAR’s Requirement:

  • If you were licensed between 2012-2016 you were required to take the online new member COE class as part of your orientation. So, you are covered!

  • You can take the Existing Member COE course online at any time.

  • These have not counted for CE CREDIT until now… More below!

  • When you complete the COE courses at realtor.org your membership record in NRDS is automatically updated to reflect completion.

  • You also can take a local, or other online CE course and get credit as long as the course covers 2.5 hrs of NAR’s learning objectives and criteria. Check before taking! You must provide a certificate to your local Board/Association to get credit in your member file prior to the quadrennial deadline. They input the data into your member record.

NMREC Requirement:
  • Not much is known at this point other than the proposed rules will require a FOUR HOUR COE Course for license renewal (every 3 yrs).

Back to CE Credit for the online courses at http://www.realtor.org.

Now, as a NMREC approved education sponsor SCRAR can issue a continuing education certificate, good for 2 CE credits, to you for taking NAR’s REALTOR’s Code of Ethics Training Online – 20120212. The charge to issue this certificate is $20. You just need to provide the email from realtor.org stating you have completed the course.
