2025 Statewide Legislative Priorities for NM REALTORS®

The New Mexico Association of REALTORS® (NMAR) represents over 7,500 residential and commercial brokers across the state, advocating for property owners, REALTOR® members, and the broader real estate market. During the 2025 legislative session, NMAR has outlined key policy priorities:


Housing Affordability, Availability, & Accessibility

  • Support expanding housing inventory to meet demand.

  • Advocate for affordable workforce housing for veterans, seniors, and vulnerable groups.

  • Oppose repealing the rent control prohibition.

  • Encourage legislation that boosts rental housing development without imposing rent control.


Property Tax Policy

  • Support fair and transparent property tax assessments.

  • Oppose transfer taxes, excise taxes, and stamp taxes on real property sales or transfers.


Property Insurance

  • Advocate for a robust and financially solvent property insurance industry offering consumer choice.


Property Crime

  • Support legislation protecting property owners from trespassing, vandalism, and theft.


Water & Natural Resources

  • Back legislation ensuring the availability of water and natural resources to meet the state's needs.


Economic Development

  • Support legislation that provides jobs and encourages investment.

  • Advance initiatives that support a healthy economy.

  • Support statewide broadband availability.

Key session dates include the prefiling period from January 2 to 17, the session opening on January 21 at noon, the introduction deadline on February 20, and the session closing on March 22 at noon.
