Annual Continuing Education Requirement for all New Mexico Real Estate Licensees

The New Mexico Real Estate Commission (NMREC) Core Course is a four-hour course that real estate licensees in New Mexico must complete annually to renew their license.

  • Purpose

    The course is designed to help licensees understand their responsibilities, such as disclosure and adherence to broker duties, in real estate transactions. 

  • Frequency

    Licensees must complete the course each year of their license renewal. 

  • Format

    The course is interactive and may be offered live online. Students attending live online classes must have their webcams enabled and remain in view of the camera for the entire class. 

  • Penalty

    If a licensee misses a core course within their three-year cycle, they must take the 30-classroom-hour Broker Basics course for 0 CEUs. The two most common causes of licensees missing a core course: 1. Waiting until the last minute to find

    an available course; 2. Simply not knowing the Rules of the Real Estate Commission.

  • Other requirements

    In addition to the core course, licensees must also complete a 4-hour ethics elective, an 8-hour core elective, and 12 elective hours in a commission-approved course. Qualifying brokers must also complete a 6-hour Qualifying Broker Refresher course.
