REALTORS® are required to complete Fair Housing / Anti-Bias Training coinciding with each Code of Ethics training cycle.

Introduction

In January 2025, NAR's Board of Directors implemented a new fair housing course requirement for all renewing Realtors and Realtor Associates. This initiative aims to reinforce the importance of fair housing laws and practices, ensuring that consumers are treated with equal concern, respect, and fairness.

Policy Overview

Starting in January 2025, every renewing Realtor and Realtor Associate must complete a fair housing course every three years. The first cycle runs from 2025 to 2027. Failure to complete the requirement will lead to status changes and possible termination. Members approved as Realtor Emeritus are exempt from this requirement. Courses taken before January 1, 2025, do not count towards this requirement.

Course Options

  • Members have six options to fulfill the requirement, including:

  • Fair Haven (FHVN) – Free, online course by NAR

  • Bias Override (BOVR) – Live course by NAR

  • At Home With Diversity Certification (AHWD) – Certification course by NAR

  • At Home With Diversity Course (HWD) – Course without certification

  • Fair Housing Course (FAIRH) – Course created and maintained by state and local associations

NAR's Fair Housing Action Plan: ACT! aims to ensure REALTORS® are doing everything possible to protect housing rights in America, with an emphasis on accountability, culture change, and training.
