The Tyrone Water & Wastewater Association (TWWA) has announced a major water line replacement project that will affect properties within the Tyrone townsite. According to the notice, “construction activities are anticipated to begin in May 2026” following the award of $6.79 million in Colonias Infrastructure Fund support. SmithCo Construction has already begun mobilizing.
The project replaces all existing transite (asbestos‑containing) mains and service lines up to each property’s water meter. As the letter states, “Replacement of water lines beyond the meter… is not included in this project.” Work will occur in phases, with excavation, replacement, and surface restoration completed within a single workday per location. No construction will take place Friday through Sunday.
TWWA will hold community meetings with at least ten days’ notice and will post updates at tyronewater.org. REALTORS® are encouraged to share this information with buyers and sellers to support accurate disclosure and transaction planning.
TWWA also notes that design work is underway for a full wastewater line replacement project anticipated for 2028, though it is currently unfunded.
