REALTOR® Center

Membership Pays!

Membership in all three levels of the REALTOR® organization brings a myriad of benefits to today's real estate licensees and licensed appraisers.

Each level has it's own benefit:

  • Professional standards, continuing education, peer networking, and access to the Multiple Listing Service are among the top reasons that it pays to be a member of the local REALTOR® Family.

  • At the state level standard forms, meetings, networking, and the legal hotline are sure bets.

  • At the national level political advocacy, industry news, and business support top the list.

Code of Ethics

NAR's Code of Ethics, adopted in 1913, was one of the first codifications of ethical duties adopted by any business group. The Code ensures that consumers are served by requiring REALTORS® to cooperate with each other in furthering clients' best interests.

As REALTORS®, our success isn’t measured by the bottom line. It’s measured by the trust of our clients and customers and the esteem in which we’re held by our colleagues and competitors. The National Association was founded with the goal of uniting the real estate profession through high standards to protect buyers and sellers. Over 100 years after its adoption, the Code of Ethics continues to be what sets us apart as REALTORS®.

The Code of Ethics

Click here to view the REALTOR® Code of Ethics.

Silver City Regional Association of REALTORS® has adopted the Code of Ethics of the National Association as a part of its governing regulations, for violation of which disciplinary action may be taken. For more information about the Code of Ethics and the Professional Standards process, click here.

Professional Standards

REALTORS® are different from non-member licensees in that they voluntarily subscribe to a strict Code of Ethics. If you believe that a REALTOR® has violated one or more Articles of the Code of Ethics, you can file an ethics complaint alleging a violation(s) through the local association of REALTORS® where the REALTOR® holds membership, or participates in a REALTOR® association-owned/operated MLS.

Boards and associations of REALTORS® are responsible for enforcing the REALTORS® Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics imposes duties above and in addition to those imposed by law or regulation, which apply only to real estate professionals who choose to become REALTORS®.

Education

Pre-licensing courses: SCRAR sponsored online courses through the CE Shop. The Silver City Regional Association of REALTORS® does not hold any pre-licensing classes locally. However, we do offer 60 of the 90 required hours to get a New Mexico real estate license through online courses with The CE Shop.

Local courses: We generally hold a local continuing education session in the Spring and in the Fall either live in person or via Zoom. However, we do schedule other dates as needed.

Online courses: silvercityrealtors.theceshop.com. Silver City Regional Association of REALTORS® Inc has established an agreement with The CE Shop to promote online course information to consumers and real estate licensees. Silver City Regional Association of REALTORS® Inc is not the developer of these courses and is simply providing a referral and receiving a royalty. Any questions regarding course content or technology should be directed to The CE Shop.

Other Options: Kaplan Real Estate Education | Greater Albuquerque AOR | Santa Fe AOR | One Stop Real Estate Education Services, and others.

New member orientation: Scheduled every 30 days as needed.

Real Estate Licensees | IMPORTANT: Download a CE Tracking sheet from the New Mexico Real Estate CommissionOr, if you have questions about New Mexico licensing or about continuing education.

Post-Licensing Requirement: By NMREC Rule, either the New Broker Business Practices (30 classroom hours) or the CCIM 101 Course is to be taken by all new Associate Broker licensees within the first year of licensure. Failure to do so will require completion of Broker Basics for zero credit.

NAR Ethics requirement: Starting in 2022, per NAR policy, the only approved Ethics courses for REALTOR® membership must be sponsored by the Association. This means that courses hosted or sponsored by SCRAR, the NAR Code of Ethics training, and Ethical Excellence: Raising the Bar (offered through our partnership with The CE Shop) will all fulfill the requirement.

NAR Fair Housing requirement: Beginning January 2025, NAR members must take a 2-hour fair housing course. NAR offers three options: At Home with Diversity course, Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing course, or Fairhaven simulator (free). You can also take a continuing education course approved by the real estate commission and satisfy this NAR requirement.

Video replay of the NMREC Commission Meetings: All acting Qualifying Brokers must attend either an NMREC Commission Meeting or an NMREC Disciplinary Hearing once in their 3-year cycle. SCRAR video replays via Zoom will fulfill that requirement. Replays are held, upon request, one week after a Commission meeting. Cost is $20 for SCRAR members and $45 for non-members. CE credits are granted based on the public portion of the meeting time.
