What is a REALTOR® Association?
The REALTOR® organization is a "federation" or a "union" of organizations held together by the Three-Way Agreement, which provides a framework for effective communication, delivery of goods and services, and enforcement of the REALTORS® Code of Ethics. With this agreement, which forms the basis of the structure of the REALTOR® organization, the National Association grants each state and local association the right to control the terms "REALTOR®" and "REALTOR-ASSOCIATE®" within its territorial jurisdiction. It also permits associations to allow individuals who are qualified for membership to use the terms REALTOR® and REALTOR-ASSOCIATE®. In turn, the state associations and local boards and associations agree to:
-
accept the charge of properly granting and regulating the use of the terms "REALTOR®" and "REALTOR-ASSOCIATE®"
-
subscribe to and enforce the Code of Ethics of the National Association
This federated structure allows the REALTOR® organization to use its combined resources (both human and financial) and influence to have a unified, powerful voice in shaping public policy, set recognized standards for ethical real estate practice, and contribute to the betterment of the real estate industry.

As REALTORS® we believe that fairness is worth fighting for, and we won’t stop until the fight is won. Because #ThatsWhoWeR

Member Services
Professional Standards
REALTORS® are different from non-member licensees in that they voluntarily subscribe to a strict Code of Ethics. If you believe that a REALTOR® has violated one or more Articles of the Code of Ethics, you can file an ethics complaint alleging a violation(s) through the local association of REALTORS® where the REALTOR® holds membership, or participates in a REALTOR® association-owned/operated MLS.
Boards and associations of REALTORS® are responsible for enforcing the REALTORS® Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics imposes duties above and in addition to those imposed by law or regulation which apply only to real estate professionals who choose to become REALTORS®.

Education
Pre-licensing courses: SCRAR sponsored online courses through the CE Shop!
Local courses: We generally hold a live two-day session in the Spring and in the Fall. However, we do schedule other dates as needed. Online continuing education courses are sponsored by SCRAR through the CE Shop!
New member orientation: Scheduled every 30-days as needed.
Real Estate Licensees: Download the CE Tracking sheet from NMREC!
NAR Ethics requirement: Beginning 2022 (per NAR policy) the ONLY approved Ethics course(s) for REALTOR® membership will be a class sponsored by the Association. Therefore, a course held/sponsored by SCRAR will count, as well as ETHICAL EXCELLENCE: RAISING THE BAR (through our affiliation with the CE Shop) will count.
Video replay of the NMREC Commission Meetings: All acting Qualifying Brokers must attend either a NMREC Commission Meeting or a NMREC Disciplinary Hearing once in their 3-year cycle. SCRAR video replays via Zoom will fulfill that requirement. Replays are held, upon request, one week after a Commission meeting. Cost is $20 for SCRAR members and $45 for non-members. CE credits are granted based on the public portion of the meeting time.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Association is always looking for volunteers. From Board members to special projects... we need your help! Our election process gets under way each September and we are always looking for new Directors to serve. We have several special projects that we do each year that range from manning a booth at the Home & Garden Expo, to painting a newly constructed Habitat home, to putting together a float for the 4th of July Parade to setting up a fundraiser for charity. We welcome your time and input. Give our President or Association Executive a call today and volunteer!
